What is Carbon Monoxide (CO)?
CO is an orderless, invisible gas that is a by-product of burning fossil fuels (oil, coal, or gas). You can't see, smell, or taste it, which makes it all the more dangerous - it can make you very sick and it can also kill you.
Common Sources of Carbon Monoxide:
- Malfunctioning appliances
- Blocked or clogged vents
- Fireplace, BBQ pits, wood burning stove - not properly vented
- Running vehicles in attached garage (causing CO leakage)
Do you have Carbon Monoxide detectors in your home?
A national study showed that 90% of Americans are not in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommendation, "to have at least one CO alarm on each level of the home and one in or near bedrooms or sleeping area."
BRK Brands, manufacturer of First Alert safety products, has provided me with two CO alarms (valued at $34.99) to giveaway to one lucky reader!

I love that this has a "move to fresh air" warning to remind you what to do in the panic of the alarm going off.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway!

I just came across your site on the blog hop and had to comment on this. This exact CO2 detector saved my life when I was pregnant! While we were sleeping the heater pipe cracked open and I woke at 3AM to the alarm. The gas company came out (while I waited outside) and the CO2 level was off the chart. It was a terrifying experience and I tell everyone I know now PLEASE get a CO2 detector!! As you can imagine, we have several of these now, including the one in the giveaway.

I know it kills people silently. So how do we prevent carbon monoxide poisoning at home. Does leaving the heater on the whole night make it more susceptible to it? What are the risks?
ReplyDeleteI have read your blog post regarding carbon monoxide and it was really helpful and informative post! thanks for sharing this great contents.
