Self-Love Giveaway

Valentine's Day maybe over, but Self-Love is everyday!

Have I ever told you how much I love blogging?  I started this blog 5 years ago, because I wanted to share some of my favorite things and explore new things too!

But last year I did not blog very much at all, because I have been leading a double life...

In my other life, I am a Body Love + Pleasure Advocate. I spend my days helping women to enjoy, explore, and hear the wisdom of their own bodies.

I work with mothers, wives, and sisters who struggle to love and accept their bodies. Women who feel uncomfortable in their own skin. Women who do not like the woman they meet in the mirror each morning. Women who often feel dissatisfied, disconnected, and disinterested in life, in their relationships,  and in themselves.

My work is about having shame-free conversations about subjects that should be shameless. And I am committed to doing this work, because I want every woman to love herself, love her body, and love her life.

Through this work, I am living my purpose.

In honor of the month of love, I curated a list of my favorite self-love goodies. This list is comprised of the sights, tastes, sounds, scents, and textures that light me up, slow me down, and help me to feel like my best self.

Check out the full list here

And in an effort to mix my two lives together, just a little bit, I am giving away a Self-Love Gift Pack to one lucky reader!

The winner will have her choice of one (1) the following gift packs:

Sprint Fit Live - Fitness at your fingertips! #Sponsored #MC #SprintMom

I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf Influence Central for Sprint. I received sample devices to facilitate this review. All views expressed are the honest opinion of Just Say I Told You So.

Since I turned 40, I have totally stepped up my fitness game. I don't know if I've simply become hyperaware of my mortality or if subtle aches of being 40-ish have me on edge... probably both. Either way I exercise more now than I ever have in my adult life. And while I don't think I will ever be the type of person that loves to work out, I am now the kind of person who works out regularly.

When it comes to working out, convenience has to be the most important thing. For me, exercise has to be accessible and easy. And that goes for all tools and equipment too. That's why I think that Sprint Fit Live is so cool.

Sprint Fit Live is not just an app, it's a "complete mobile health and fitness package." And to make the experience even more comprehensive, Sprint has partnered with Samsung, Under Armour, and MapMyFitness to introduce the Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport!

The Galaxy S5 Sport is not your average cellphone. It allows you to keep track of your workouts, it monitors your heart rate, and tracks your progress.

MapMyFitness is like a GPS system that tracks your fitness activities like: distance, duration, speed, pace, elevation, calories burned, and the route you traveled.

A few weeks ago I had an opportunity to participate in a fitness demonstration at a local Sprint store. So I was able to witness and experience Sprint Fit Live and the Galaxy S5 Sport first hand.

The ability to track your progress on the Samsung Gear Fit was my favorite part. I know how much I "guess" my progress, which means I spend a lot of time giving myself more credit than I deserve for progress that I may or may not have achieved. But these savvy tools eliminate the guess work altogether.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport is exclusive to Sprint. And they're offering some very cool purchase incentives:
  • MapMyFitness - free for one year.
  • Sprint Fit Live - free
  • Spotify Premium - free for 6 or 3 months
  • Samsung Gear Fit- $50 off
If you've been putting off making exercise a regular part of your life, maybe setting yourself up with tools of success is just what you need!

Visit your local Sprint store, follow them on Facebook and Twitter too.

How to Prepare for Your First Yoga Class

Maybe you’ve finally decided to enter the realm of Yoga. Your sessions will help you to develop a sense of balance between your mind, body and spirit. If you are anxiously anticipating your first yoga class, then you will want to properly prepare yourself so that you can maximize the health benefits. The following are some tips on getting yourself ready for your first ever practice.

Hydrate
You will need to properly hydrate yourself so that you will have extra liquids when you engage in Yoga stretching and movement the first time. Make sure you drink several glasses of water or Gatorade at least two hours before your session. Your increased fluid intake will help you to prevent dehydration when you engage in increased activities.
Take a Hot Bath (Before or After!)
Yoga is an activity that essentially promotes relaxation. You can help bring forth your relaxed state by taking a hot bath before your session. A hot bath with eucalyptus or lavender oils will release any tension that you have in the body. It will also loosen your muscles and promote flexibility.
Clear Your Mind
Another way that you can prepare yourself for your first yoga session is by clearing your mind of stressful thoughts ahead of time. You can do this by practicing meditation before class. To meditate properly, you will need to find a quiet area in your home where you can steer your thought process in a positive direction. You may also choose to find a comfortable spot outside. You will want to take long, slow, deep breaths while focusing on the rise and fall of your lungs. Tune in to the movement and focus your thoughts on your upcoming yoga class.
Dress Comfortably
You will want to wear appropriate clothing when you head to your first yoga session. Spandex is a good choice of material because it enables flexibility. Lululemon founder Chip Wilson swears by his company’s yoga attire. The clothing is meant to allow for optimal movement and relaxation. Most of the time, yoga is practiced with bare feet so shoes are not necessary. Chip Wilson advises individuals of all ages and fitness levels to try yoga and reap the health benefits of the activity.

The last thing you need to do to prepare yourself for your first yoga lesson is to bring a positive attitude to class. You must leave behind all of the troubles and struggles of the day and allow positive energy to flow through your body as you begin the flowing movements.

Campbell's Address Your Heart ❤️

Even though hypertension runs in my family and my grandfather had his first heart attack in his 40's, I am still not as heart conscious as I should be. But I am very conscious of my food choices and I try to prepare food for my family in the healthiest way possible, without losing flavor.

But being heart healthy is certainly not just about what I eat, it's also about exercise and overall health. Since I only like two exercises, it's a good thing that one of them is walking! Walking is great for the heart. There's nothing like stretching my legs, getting fresh air in my lungs, and getting the old heart pumping!

What are you doing to keep your heart healthy?

Campbell's Soup wants you to "Address Your Heart" with these tasty delicious recipes:

Advil PM review & giveaway

I received a free Advil PM prize pack.
I have had trouble sleeping for a very long time. It's rare for me to sleep the night through, especially if I have a headache (or any other kind of ache for that matter). Trying to get to sleep when something is ailing me can prove to be impossible, at least until I discovered Advil PM.

Advil PM combines ibuprofen for pain relief with a mild (non-habit forming) sleep aid (diphenhydramine citrate), to help you get the rest your body needs.

Did you know that pain is the #1 reason people say they don't sleep well? This didn't surprise me at all, because I've lived it! Of course pain isn't the only reason that some folks can't sleep, which is why Advil created the new Sleep Help App.  This app will give you personalized advice, as well as help you to identify your own sleep patterns and routines.

Popular tips include:
  • Tips for back, side, and stomach sleepers.
  • How to handle noisy (snoring) partners.
  • Ideal temperature.
  • How to create the right sleeping environment.
  • Many more...
You can download the app on iTunes or Google Play.

Who wants to win something???

I have an Advil PM prize pack to giveaway to one lucky reader!  The prize pack includes:

Warm Traditions Hot Water Bottles are AWESOME!

Although I live in sunny California, the evenings can get a little chilly here in San Pedro. I know our idea of chilly is not the same as most, but it gets cold for "us." Plus my little sister Jamee is always cold, it doesn't matter what season it is!

You want to know one of the best ways to take the chill off? Hot water bottles! I hadn't used once since I was a kid, that's why I was thrilled when I received the Lamb Hot Water Bottle from Warm Tradition to review.
Isn't she too cute?
This water bottle stayed hot for HOURS! Soothing warmth radiated from this cute little cuddly lamb. It even kept Jamee warm... which is a miracle!

If you've never used a hot water bottle you may be wondering what you could use one for. Well her are a few of my favorite uses:

  1. Menstrual Cramps - the warmth will make you feel much, much better.
  2. Arthritis - many arthritis pain sufferers will attest that heat eases the pain.
  3. Book Companion - a good book + warm beverage + hot water bottle = great evening!
  4. Chill out - hot water bottles can be frozen too. It's a great way to cool off when it's hot!
Warm Tradition hot water bottles come in over 100 colors and stylish varieties. You can buy them plain if that's your thing or you can get a cute cuddly cover. Animal designs, sport prints, flowers... and more!

Visit the Warm Tradition site today, you're sure to find a style that you'll love! Right now their offering free shipping on orders $75 or more.

You can also follow Warm Tradition on Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter.

Listerine 21-Day Challenge - Conclusion

The 21-days are up. Do I see a change? Have I made using Listerine a part of my brushing routine a habit? Will I keep it up?  Yes... Yes... and Yes!

Listerine made a difference that I can feel. By using Listerine twice a day for a brief 30 seconds this is what I've noticed:

  1. My teeth feel cleaner longer, even after meals.
  2. My morning breath is a whole lot fresher.
  3. I smile more - this was a very pleasant side effect of participating in the challenge.

I am really proud of myself (and my entire family). I really didn't expect that this easy, simple, and quick change would have such a huge impact. I already knew that having good dental hygiene was important, but now I know that fresh breath looks and feels like something. It feels good!

After participating in the Listerine 21-day Challenge, here are a few tips that I think will help you step up your dental game:
  • Keep it on the counter - the first few days of the challenge were a challenge for me, because I was storing the Listerine in the cabinet. Bad idea. Keeping things in plain sight helps to remind us to do what we're supposed to do.
  • Schedule it - if you forget to rinse on occasion, it's okay. Nobody's perfect. Setting an alarm or calendar reminder will help you to remember.  After a while it'll become a habit don't worry. But until it does - wait for the beep!
  • Take a closer look - get up close and personal in the mirror. Take a look around, so that you can get familiar with what's really going on in your mouth. This way when something isn't right (swollen gums, bleeding, etc), you'll be able to spot it right away.
It's no wonder that Listerine is offering a money back guarantee (offer valid through 6/30/13), they already know that this products works... for real!
Stop by the Listerine Facebook page and pledge to take the challenge today. Your entire mouth will thank you!
Click here to download a coupon for $1.00 off Listerine mouthwash.
I received products from Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products division of McNeil-PPC, Inc. and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the Listerine 21 Day Challenge. All views expressed are the honest opinion of Just Say I Told You So.

Listerine 21-day Challenge

My mother really instilled the importance of taking good care of my teeth. As a child, I never missed a dental cleaning. As a result, I have not had a cavity since elementary school (applause please...). I have made it my business to pay it forward by teaching my daughter good oral health habits as well.

My dental routine is simple, brush and floss, sometimes I use mouthwash, sometimes I don't. I also visit my dentist once every six months for a routine check-up and cleaning. So far, this routine has served me pretty well, but that isn't stopping me from participating in the Listerine 21-day Challenge!

Did you know that even though you may brush regularly, you still miss 75% of your mouth? That's frightening! That means that there is still "stuff" lurking between your teeth, under your tongue, beneath the gum line, and any other place things can hide. This statistic alone is enough to make me want to take my oral care to the next level.

What is the Listerine 21-day Challenge?

In addition to your normal brushing routine, rinse with Listerine twice a day for 30 seconds, for three weeks (21 days).  That's all.

What results should you expect?

  • Up to 5x's healthier gums in two weeks
  • Up to 9x's healthier gums in four weeks
That's awesome considering for only one minute per day.  I know you have one minute to spare, right?

They're making donations!

When you sign up to participate in the 21-day Challenge on Facebook, Listerine will make a donation to Oral Health America to help children in need of dental care.

Wait... there's more

If you participate in the challenge and do not feel the difference, Listerine will give you your money back. Offer valid through June 30, 2013.

Will you take the challenge with me? Click here to sign up right now! Be sure to leave me a comment if you decide to participate. Let's rock our incredible smiles together!

AutisMate - Autism iPad App

AutisMate is an app designed for children with Autism.  The app's designer, Jonathan Izak, was inspired by his 11-year old brother with autism.

AutisMate is the first app that includes customizable behavioral and communication tools, allowing children with autism (and their parents, caregivers, and teachers) to import images, video, audio, and other information into a visual "scene-based" platform.

Video modeling, social stories, and GPS are just a few of the app's many features. This software is intuitive and applicable in real time.

Several beta users have reported improved connections, “I recently used [Autismate to help my son] understand what would be happening at a hospital visit to have tubes put in his ears (a procedure he had done before and had gotten very upset). This last visit he was calmer and cooperated really well!”

You can download the AutisMate app for your iPad. Visit the AutisMate website and follow on Facebook and Twitter.

Journal 10+ Review

The end of the year is a time of reflection. Even if you're not sentimental, you can't help but think about the things you've accomplished (and the things you didn't), you review the highs and lows, and contemplate what you'd like to do next.

But sometimes goal setting can be dangerous. You can easily set yourself up for failure, simply by aiming too high.

One of the best ways to keep your goals in check is to record your thoughts daily (especially thoughts of gratitude). The Journal 10+ can help!

I'm not talking about carving out time in your day to write pages at a time, but just a few short sentences. Let's face it, the older you get the faster the time appears to go. When you get to the end of the year, it can be hard to remember what happened.  Two minutes a day, that's all it takes.

When I was younger I wrote in my journal every single day, but somehow I fell out of the habit. I gave myself a million excuses, like there was no time or that it wasn't that important. But now I need to journal more than ever. It's a stress reliever for me. It's also a way for me to prove to myself that I am actually getting things done. If you don't currently journal, you should start... now.

The Journal 10+ has a beautiful cover and also has these great features:

  • Address book
  • Section for birthdays and anniversaries
  • Goals setting page
  • 11 years capacity
  • and more!
If you're getting ready for the new year, the Journal 10+ is just what you need. I'll be giving away a copy to one lucky winner in a few days... stay tuned!

1st Step PRO-WELLNESS™ Liquid B-12 Review

I know so many people who complain of low energy, especially women. Hyped up on caffeine in the morning, only to crash by mid-afternoon. What if there was a natural way to keep your energy going throughout the day, would you try it?

1st Step Pro-Wellness has a solution, Liquid Vitamin B12 Complex. Taken once a day, to promote "natural energy without stimulants or caffeine." B Vitamins are said assist in metabolism and aid in the function of the nervous system and vital organs.

My sister, Jamee, tried it out for a week. She's not a coffee drinker and does not rely on other sources of caffeine regularly either.  She didn't report any feelings of increased energy while taking this product. In terms of flavor, she thought the Tropical Blend was okay, but thought the Cherry Charge tasted like medicine.

If you regularly consume energy drinks, energy shots, or caffeinated beverages to maintain your energy, I would encourage you to give this a try. Why not get that extra boost the healthy way?

You can purchase 1st Step Pro-Wellness Liquid Vitamin B12 Complex nationwide at Walgreens and Kroger markets, as well as over 2,000 other retailers.

I also encourage you to vote on the finalist in the 1st Step Facebook Photo Contest. You can also follow 1st Step via Twitter, Google+, and their blog.

I was supplied with free sample of this product to facilitate this review. All views expressed are the opinion of Just Say I Told You So.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Review

Let's face it, staying fit is a never ending job. You must remain conscientious about the things you eat, each and every day. I have found one of the most important components of a healthy lifestyle is portion control. Weight Watchers Smart Ones is a genius way to eat well, with controlled portions, and loads of flavor!

I recently tried the Pasta with Ricotta and Spinach and I was really surprised at how tasty it was. The flavor was spot-on and it was seasoned just right, I didn't have to add anything to it, it was delicious right out of the package.

My daughter's favorite is the Broccoli & Cheddar Potatoes!  She's been eating it for years, long before she became a weight conscious teen, which is great because it doesn't feel like she's sacrificing anything to eat a meal that she already enjoyed.

One of the reasons that Weight Watchers is wildly successful is, it's not a diet, it's a way of life. Smart Ones makes it easy to live :-)

Smart Ones are available in the freezer section of your local market. Print the following coupon and save $2.00 off any 5 Smart Ones products:

Life Supplemented App Review

For the most part I am enjoying the aging process, well except for the achy knees, spreading thighs, and puffy middle. The good news is, there are so many tools available to guide me along the way. I don't want to just exist, I want to grow and thrive, but in order to to that I have to be "well," right?

Life... supplemented is a consumer wellness campaign committed to supporting the three pillars of health: healthy diet, supplements, and exercise. They have recently launched an iPhone app called WannaBeWell.

The WannaBeWell app is simple and easy to use (no degree required). One of my favorite things about this app is the Coach. There are several avatars to choose from and you can even change their outfits! They do all sorts of crazy exercise/dance moves, you can't help but Laugh-Out-Loud (LOL)!  The coaches remind you to take your vitamins and provide healthy eating tips too. I must admit I was a little confused when the coach kept asking me the same question "did you take your vitamin today?"

There are also surveys to help assess your current health. The blog has plenty of good information too, from weight management to family meals. The library has a ton of information on dietary supplements and various health conditions as well. It's like having my own personal Health Information Center at my fingertips!

If you are looking to jump start a healthier lifestyle, without investing a ton of money, this app may be just what you've been looking for.  Click here to download the app from iTunes.

I tried the WannaBeWell App as part of a promotional campaign through MomCentral. While compensation was received, all views expressed are the opinion of Just Say I Told You So.

Creative Bioscience - 90-day Challenge

Most people make New Years resolutions promising to make changes in their lives, but that's never been me. I try to implement lifestyle changes as I see fit, but of course sticking to them is another issue.

Now that I'm approaching 40 I have become more mindful about my overall lifestyle.  Which is why I will be taking the Creative Bioscience 90-day challenge.  Over the course of 90 days I will be taking Green Coffee Bean Pure Extract to help me burn some of my extra "fluff."

Creative Bioscience has a variety of diet and weight loss supplements. Of course there is no substitute for hard work, I agree, but we can all use a jump start from time to time.  I will be posting once a month to let you know how things are going. Maybe my success will inspire you :-)

Images from Creative Bioscience. I will receive a 90 day supply from Creative Bioscience. My participation is voluntary. All views expressed are the opinion of Just Say I Told You So.

Listerine Smart Rinse Review and Giveaway (closed)

After years of working in the insurance industry, I have seen what can happen when people don't take care of their teeth. So many health problems begin in the mouth. I once had a client that had what she thought was a sinus infection, for over 4 months! After countless visits to the doctor and trying nearly every sinus medication on the market, it was discovered that she had an abscess in the rear of her mouth that was causing the problem all along. That's why it's important for us to teach our children the importance of dental hygiene early on. Listerine Smart Rinse can help.

Listerine Smart Rinse is a "post-brush" rinse designed just for kids, providing up to 12 hours of cavity protection. What makes this rinse different from other fluoride rinses you ask? Well for starters it "tints" left over food particles that are often left behind after brushing, so you can actually see it working! And it also helps to strengthen teeth.

Listerine Smart Rinse comes in three great kid-friendly flavors:
  • Mint Shield
  • Barbie Fab Bubble Gum
  • Phineas and Ferb Bubble Blast
We tried the Phineas and Ferb Bubble Blast, which happens to be a really cool shade of blue, and it doesn't taste half bad either. Those leftover food particles can't be missed, you can spot them right away! There is a slight blue tint to your teeth after the rinse, so I found that rinsing with water afterwards is a must. Adding Listerine Smart Rinse is a great addition to daily brushing and flossing.

Dr. Kaneta Lott (Pediatric Dentist and member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) suggests that you make brushing fun:
  • Show and don't tell-  brush your teeth with your children, they love to follow your lead!
  • Make it fun -  have a funny-face flossing contest or play "Simon Says."
  • Give that kid a prize! - give out stickers and prizes for brushing, flossing, and rinsing.
Since school is back in session, now is a great time to revisit your child's oral care routine. Click here for more kid-friendly tips.
