Man on a Ledge
Directed by: Asger Leth
Starring:
Sam Worthington
Ed Harris
Elizabeth Banks
Edward Burns
Anthony Mackie
Jamie Bell
IMDB Summary:
An ex-cop turned con threatens to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop. The nearest New York Police officer immediately responds to a screaming woman and calls dispatch. More Officers arrive with SWAT and tactical command along with fire-fighters. The police then dispatches a female police psychologist personally requested to talk him down from the ledge. However, things aren't as straightforward and clearcut as they appear to be.
Here's what I think:
So Nick (Sam Worthington) is an escaped convict, who checks into a hotel, eats his last supper, then posts himself on the hotel ledge (many stories up). He quickly gets the attention of the nosey Manhattan crowd gathering below, a negotiator (Elizabeth Banks), and the SWAT team. As it turns out, Nick was serving time for stealing a $40M diamond from real estate mogul, David Englander (Ed Harris). The plot thickens, rather quickly, but I won't give it away.
The story grabbed me from the very beginning. While Sam Worthington is on the ledge for the majority of this flick, there is plenty of nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat, action. I must admit I found myself stressed out, several times during the 102 minute stretch. Is it the best movie I have ever seen? No. But do I think it's worth seeing? Absolutely!
