I had the pleasure of screening Brave in 3D last night and I must say it's pretty incredible! Set in the Highlands of Scotland, Brave chronicles what happens when old traditions and the autonomy of youth collide, but it also demonstrates the transformative power of love. Brave is a film about family, plain and simple.
The animation alone took my breath away. Merida's flowing red locks were so life-like that I wanted to touch them!
But what struck me the most about this story was how much I could relate to it. Merida colors outside the lines. She is feisty and rambunctious. She's the type of girl who knows what she wants and goes after it. She goes against the grain, not as an act of defiance against her parents (mostly her mother), but to flex her independence. As the mother of a teenager, I know how hard it can be to accept that children do not always do what you want them to do. When my daughter was born, I had a million and one grandiose ideas about her life, but now that she's nearly 17, I have had to acknowledge that her journey is not mine (insert crocodile tears here).
Brave will have you laughing out loud, but it will pull at your heartstrings too!
Brave hits theaters on Friday 6/22/12!

This is not a paid post. I was invited to a screening of Brave by Disney. All views expressed are the opinion of Just Say I Told You So.
Great Review of a great movie :)
