I used Purex plus Clorox 2 on a load of towels that had been used to wash the car and they came out fresh and clean as a whistle. I also used it on my bed linens. But the real test was my dark clothes, because darks seem to collect a ton of dirt, but Purex handled it!

Laundry... is never ending. You can do it all in one day, but there are always more clothes to wash. I suppose it's wise not to begrudge something that is part of life, right?  In my quest to embrace laundry, I have tried many products to get my family's clothes as clean as humanly possible.  One of my secret weapons is 20 Mule Team Borax!

What is Borax?

Borax is a naturally occurring mineral. It's produced by the "repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes." That's right, it's made by Mother Nature and has been used for laundry (and other uses) for more than 100 years. 

I have found that Borax is awesome on stains and it also gets rid of odors. But that's not all Borax is good for:

• Removes soap scum and hard water deposits (I've tried it, works great).
• Can be used in carpet cleaning machines (I've tried this one too).
• Helps reduce water spots in the dishwasher (and this one).
• Helps to clean and shine pots and pans (you guessed, been there done that).

There is only one thing I use more than Borax, baking soda... but that's a topic for another post.

If you've been spending the big bucks on another laundry booster, that I won't name (but starts with oxy), I encourage you to give Borax a go, because it's soooo much cheaper!

Share Your Adventures in Clean with Frigidaire!

When you're a mother, there are plenty of things to do (all the time), but laundry is the one thing that is never ending! Disney's upcoming film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, reminds us that "life is full of messy adventures."

Frigidaire (makers of the Affinity® front loader) is on a mission help families to get the laundry done, so that they can get out and do more of the things they love!

I'd like to share a few tips from Frigidaire by Tara Aronson to help you get your clothes cleaner:

• Read - Read fabric care labels before you wash. Your clothes will last longer if you know how to treat them.
• Pretreat - Before washing stained garments, pretreat or prewash the spot using the Affinity’s Rinse & Spin cycle. If at first you don’t succeed, wash, wash again.
• Check the Wet - Check wet garments for remaining stains, and re-treat as needed before drying. Heat will set stains.
• Full loads save time (and energy) - Dry only full loads. Tumbling a handful of garments prolongs the drying time by reducing the tumbling.

Tips for removing the five most common stains by Tara Aronson:

1. Crayon - Scrape off as much of the colorful surface as possible using a plastic picnic knife. Apply laundry detergent directly on the stained area. Gently rub the detergent into the fabric then let sit several minutes. Launder using the hottest water the fabric can handle - or the Sanitize setting of your Frigidaire Affinity washer. Dry as usual.
2. Iced coffee - Sponge the stained area with cold water. Apply a pretreater to the blight. Wash as usual and air dry.
3. Grass - Prewash the garment in warm water in your washing machine –the Rinse & Spin cycle on your Affinity washer – and a laundry detergent containing enzymes. Launder as usual (normal setting) with detergent and chlorine bleach if safe for the fabric. If the garment’s care label instructions advise against it, use oxygen (color safe) bleach instead. Dry as usual.
4. Juice - Soak for a minute or so in cold water. Remove excess water, and then apply a pretreater directly on the stained area. Wash with detergent as usual. Air dry. Do not place in the dryer until the blight is completely gone – otherwise the stain is likely to set.
5. Chocolate (or chocolate ice cream) - Prewash the garment in warm water with a laundry detergent that contains enzymes using the Affinity’s Rinse & spin setting. Launder as usual, using the washing machine’s Normal setting. Dry as usual.

Jennifer Garner - Adventures in Clean

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to spend the day frolicking around the park with Moms just like me, including none other than Jennifer Garner!  Jennifer, who is starring in the upcoming Disney film The Odd Life of Timothy Green, is partnering with Disney and Frigidaire to promote awareness for Save the Children.

Although the calendar said otherwise, I am convinced it was the first day of summer because it was super hot! Lucky for me the event had plenty of beverages and an abundance of delicious adult and kid-friendly vittles on hand!

After we feasted on macaroni balls, mini-veggie burgers, pasta salad and many other delicious treats,the children were invited to get filthy! What kid doesn't jump at the chance to get dirty (with permission)?

The day was perfectly planned with plenty of ruin-your-clothes activities! They played tug of war, maneuvered through an obstacle course, and shuffled laundry with the moms! 

Later, we were shuttled over to Grauman's Chinese Theater for a screening of the movie (review coming soon...), we even got to walk the green carpet (complete with paparazzi)!

While we were watching the movie, Frigidaire's Affinity® Front Load Washer and Dryer cleaned up the mess!

All in all it was an awesome day! We got to bake play in the sunshine, chow down, catch an amazing flick, connect with other incredible moms, with laundry service... I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!

I must admit that I am a skeptic when it comes to concentrated products, I struggle with the concept of less really being more. In my mind I always feel like I'm paying the same (or sometimes more), but getting less.  And now here comes Purex UltraPacks Laundry Detergent. How did they expect me to believe that one of these pillow shaped packets could clean an entire load of laundry?

So I gave them a try and boy was I surprised! Those little puffy cushions pack a punch! To be honest I did add two packs to several loads (a girl can't change overnight, right?). You might wonder how I can be sure that they really did get my clothes clean, well I used the Free & Clear formula, which means no colors, no dyes, and no perfume.  So if my clothes weren't clean, I'd be able to smell it.

Laundry is not exactly my favorite thing to do, but it's a necessary evil! Although I must admit, the smell of fresh laundry makes my nose very happy!
